Guest: Dr. Peter Linz, International Chief Medical Officer.
An inspirational story of how one organization seeks to help people in Sub-Saharan Africa who are so poor they can’t even access a doctor or hospital, people who suffer and die from conditions that are entirely treatable. Mercy Ships volunteers have sailed to Africa since 1978 providing over 89,000 free surgeries. And they work with local governments to start initiatives to train and mentor local health professionals. Their current ship, the Africa Mercy, is the largest non-governmental hospital ship in the world, with an on board surgical capacity of 7,000 interventions per year.
