"Firearm violence is a public health epidemic that has lasting impacts on the health and well-being of everyone in this country." - Center for Gun Violence Solutions

Firearm violence continues to claim tens of thousands of lives in the United States each year, leaving lasting impacts on individuals, families, and communities.

In 2024 alone, nearly 45,000 people died from gun violence - an average of one death every 12 minutes. While the scale of the crisis is staggering, public health experts are working to identify evidence-based solutions that can save lives and create safer communities.

The Center for Gun Violence Solutions at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health brings together researchers, legislators, healthcare providers, law enforcement, community leaders, advocates, and other partners to advance practical, research-driven strategies that reduce gun violence and promote health equity.

Our guest is Josh Horwitz, JD, Co-Director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions and the Dana Feitler Professor in Gun Violence Prevention and Advocacy. In this episode, he discusses the public health approach to preventing firearm violence, the policies and community partnerships making a difference, and the work of the Center and its partner organization, North Carolinians Against Gun Violence, to help build a future where everyone can live free from gun violence.
